Preserving a Landmark

In 2005, the City celebrated the 25th anniversary of its incorporation.  The celebration included street art beaver sculptures that were displayed throughout the City, an anniversary quilt, a special calendar, the addition of a commemorative clock, an Ox Roast and many more family events helped celebrate the 25 years since the City was incorporated.

The commemorative clock was added as a beautiful addition to the North Fairfield Road and Dayton-Xenia Road intersection.  In the 1990’s, a public works employee for the City of Beavercreek was killed on New Germany Trebein Road while doing road maintenance work.  Citizens set up an account to collect money for a street clock in his honor.  Only a small portion of what was needed was raised and the project was unable to move forward.  During the planning of the 25th anniversary celebration, the street clock idea came to be a reality with hopes that donors would like seeing their idea completed with the installation of the commemorative clock.

The 25th anniversary committee built a fundraiser to sell miniature replicas of the commemorative clock to raise enough funds to install the street clock. Community minded residents who participated got their name engraved on plaques, which are posted on the base of the clock.

The City and anniversary committee worked together on the location and accepting the clock to be a City landmark.  The City was given and has exhausted the remainder of the donation funds from this project for maintenance of the clock.

The clock is now 13 years old and is in need of some additional repairs.  The manufacturer of the clock, Verdin Clock Company, along with city staff will be removing the head of the clock to be returned to the manufacturer’s warehouse for repairs.  The clock head will be removed soon and it is estimated that the repairs could take a couple of weeks before the clock will be reinstalled.

The City of Beavercreek is thankful for those who donated to make the clock a reality at the North Fairfield Road and Dayton-Xenia Road intersection and wish to preserve this great landmark.
