[ARCHIVED] Mayor Bob Stone Bids Farewell to Beavercreek City Council After 8 Years of Service

Mayor Bob Stone

After eight years serving as the Mayor of the City of Beavercreek, Bob Stone attended his final city council meeting as mayor on Monday night, where he received thanks and praise from fellow council members and city staff.

During the meeting, Mayor Stone was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Beavercreek Police Department and a special plaque from City Manager Pete Landrum and city staff. Mayor-elect Don Adams and members of the city council also presented Mayor Stone with a proclamation.

Stone is the first directly elected mayor and the longest-serving mayor for the City of Beavercreek since the city was established in 1980. During his time as mayor, the city has faced many challenges and celebrated numerous successes.

“Two of the most significant moments as your mayor were leading our city's recovery following the devastating tornadoes that struck over Memorial Day weekend in 2019 and navigating our community through the trials of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Stone. “It was a trying time, but our resilient community came together. I am proud to say a majority of our residents and businesses have rebuilt, stronger than ever.”

Also, during Stone’s time as mayor, the city secured funding to stabilize its police department and public services’ budgets. This enabled the city to hire additional police officers to better serve and protect the community, complete important road projects, and increase staffing dedicated to street maintenance.

Stone's involvement in other noteworthy projects include coordinating the donation and development of the Charles and Anna May Lofino Enrichment Center (Beavercreek Senior Center), working on the Beavercreek Veterans’ Memorial, supporting the Greene Town Center, and achieving the long-awaited Fairfield Road Interchange and a new city maintenance facility.

“Every day I am proud to not only serve the Beavercreek community but also work alongside our dedicated city council members and city staff,” said Stone. “Together, as a team, we've achieved remarkable milestones.”

During Monday night’s meeting, Mayor Stone thanked city council and staff for the work they have done over the years and wished the new administration luck.

“Though my term as mayor is ending, my commitment to this community remains unwavering,” said Stone. “As we welcome new leadership, I have no doubt that our city will continue to uphold the city’s vision of being a safe, vibrant community, dedicated to serving the needs of residents and embracing the opportunities of tomorrow.”

Stone grew up in Beavercreek and attended Wright State University before serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, he received numerous awards, including a Bronze Star Medal for "Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces."

Over the years, Stone has been very active in the community and served on several boards and committees, including the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation; Board of Directors for the Beavercreek Enrichment Association (Senior Center); Beavercreek Veterans’ Memorial Committee; Board of Directors for the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce; Ethics Board for the Greene County Bar Association; Beavercreek Board of Zoning Appeals; Beavercreek Planning Commission; Beavercreek City Council; and Beavercreek Township Trustee. Stone was honored to be inducted into the 2022 Ohio Veterans’ Hall of Fame and the 2023 Greene County Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

Stone’s last day as mayor is December 31, 2023.
