[ARCHIVED] City of Beavercreek Continues Progress on Street Resurfacing and Curb Replacement Program

Street Resurfacing

The City of Beavercreek is investing $2.5 million in its 2024 Street Resurfacing and Curb Replacement Program, an annual initiative designed to enhance residential roadways. The program focuses on resurfacing streets and replacing deteriorated curbs in preparation for future improvements.

So far in 2024, the city has resurfaced 8.2 centerline miles of roadway. In October, the program will address approximately 9,750 feet of deteriorated curbs. This work will include spot replacement of damaged curbs and upgrading aprons that do not meet city standards. A list of streets and curbs included in this year’s program can be found online at beavercreekohio.gov/engineering.

Additionally, due to remaining funds in the budget, this year’s program will also include resurfacing an extra 0.33 centerline miles on Darst Road, from Swigart Road to Maple Grove Lane.

The increase in the program’s budget followed the passage of a city streets levy in November 2022. Despite rising costs, the city has managed to sustain its resurfacing and curb replacement goals. The price of asphalt has surged from $70.40 per ton in 2021 to $105 per ton in 2024, reflecting nearly a 40% increase over three years. Conversely, the cost of removing and replacing concrete curbs has decreased from $66.01 per linear foot to $60 per linear foot.

Road resurfacing prioritization is based on Pavement Condition Ratings (PCR), with the lowest-rated streets receiving the highest priority. PCR assessments follow the Ohio Department of Transportation’s evaluation procedures, which rely on visual inspections to assess roadway deterioration.
