Orange construction barrels have started lining North Fairfield Road as a long-anticipated widening project officially gets underway between Lawson Drive and Fairwood Drive.
The City of Beavercreek, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation, is leading the effort to expand this heavily traveled section of roadway. The project will widen the current four-lane road—two through lanes in each direction—to five lanes, adding a center left-turn lane aimed at easing congestion and improving safety.
In addition to the road widening, planned improvements include the reconstruction of a 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of North Fairfield Road and the construction of an 8-foot sidewalk on the east side. The project also encompasses curb upgrades, storm sewer improvements, and enhancements to a bridge just south of Be Hope Church.
“The goal is to reduce traffic backups and make the road safer for everyone who uses it,” said City Engineer and Public Service Director Jeff Moorman.
Construction traffic impacts are expected to be minimal, with North Fairfield Road remaining open throughout the project; however, short-duration closures may occur on some side streets. Access to all properties will be maintained during the construction period.
The project began early June and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The project costs approximately $2.3 million, with $1.2 million funded by federal grants and $1.1 million from the city’s street levy fund.
