Posted on: August 31, 2018[ARCHIVED] Hindu Community Celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Beavercreek First Responders

On August 24, 2018, members of the Hindu Community Organization (HCO) visited the Beavercreek Police Department to celebrate the annual Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan with both the Beavercreek Police and Beavercreek Township Fire Departments. Organized by HCO President Manoj Kumar, and led by Dr. Sunita Argwal, the event commemorated the time-honored Hindu festival celebrating the universal bond between brothers and sisters. The annual rite is centered on a ceremony that includes tying a sacred thread (Rakhi) on another’s wrist as a form of love and protection. Prayers for good health and long life are also said for the recipients and gifts of food are presented. The HCO graciously chose to observe this event with members of the Police and Fire Departments, recognizing that our first responders make great sacrifices every day to protect and serve and keep our community safe. HCO Board Members Sunder Batla, Anish Bole, Suman Kejriwal, and Sharmila Mukhopadhyay were among the attendees representing the Hindu community. State Representative Niraj Antani (House District 42) presented a proclamation from State Representative Rick Perales (House District 73) on behalf of the members of the Ohio House of Representatives in recognition of the significance of the event. Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone, City Manager Pete Landrum, Council Members Zach Upton and Charles Curran, Police Chief Dennis Evers, Beavercreek Township Administrator Alex Zaharieff and Fire Department Chief David VandenBos were in attendance, along with several members from each department. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hindu Community for reaching out to us in partnership.
