During the December 10th City Council meeting, City Manager, Pete Landrum presented the State of the City address for 2018 and a look at the 2019 Municipal Budget. The State of the City is an opportunity to show off the progress the city is making and what the future holds.
The focus of the 2018 State of the City was Discovery Theme of the Four “C’s”; (1) Capacity of services, labor, and revenue; (2 & 3) Connectivity and Communication between departments, employees, Council and to the residents; (4) Consistence of policy, scheduling, budgeting, planning actions and practices. The coming year will be an exciting and challenging time for the city as staff brings the “Four C’s” together with new technology.
During 2018, the city began updating many systems including, timekeeping/scheduling and a GIS, work order management and asset tracking software (Dude Solutions). These two system changes will greatly impact the efficiency of the city and assist us in the Four “C’s”. The Dude Solutions software alone will connect departments together (Engineering, Public Services, Planning & Development, and Zoning/Code Enforcement) for better communication while the system will have data on all city buildings and infrastructure in the city, therefore assisting the city in priorities and helping to identify the city’s capacity to maintain its assets.
The City Manager’s address highlighted the accomplishments of the past year and focused on future planned initiatives for 2019 and beyond. In 2018 the city experienced another active year in providing quality services to residents while maintaining governmental expenditures. Staff continued to find creative ways to stretch city tax dollars utilizing new operational approaches.
