Community Survey identifies priorities for aging in place, mobility, and community connection

News Updates Posted on February 04, 2026

A comprehensive community survey conducted in partnership between the City of Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township highlights strong support for helping residents age in place while identifying opportunities to improve housing options, transportation connectivity, community engagement and public spaces.

The 2025 Age-Friendly Community Survey was conducted as part of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Age-Friendly Livable Community initiative and was fully funded through a grant from The Dayton Foundation. Conducting the survey was a required step for Beavercreek to become a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States & Communities, a national program focused on helping communities better support residents as they age. The survey, which was advertised through Beavercreek In Touch, the city’s website, social media channels, digital newsletter and other communication outlets, was open from Aug. 13 to Sept. 14, 2025. More than 900 residents participated, with adults ages 65 and older representing about 45% of respondents.

Survey results were presented to Beavercreek City Council during its Jan. 12, 2026, meeting, providing elected officials with an overview of community feedback and data-driven recommendations to guide future planning efforts.

Overall, residents expressed a strong desire to remain in Beavercreek. Nearly three-quarters of respondents said they expect to stay in the community over the next 10 years, and about half rated Beavercreek as a very good or excellent place to live as they age.

Housing affordability and accessibility emerged as a key concern. Sixty-one percent said the cost of living in their current home would strongly influence whether they move, while many cited the need for housing that supports independent living, such as single-story homes. Respondents also voiced concerns about overdevelopment without sufficient infrastructure.

Transportation and walkability were also major themes. While most respondents rely on driving, fewer than half feel sidewalks, bike paths and trails connect them well to key destinations. Many emphasized the importance of accessible transportation for older adults and people with disabilities, including continued support for Senior Center transportation services.

Recreational assets such as parks, green spaces, bike paths and wetlands were widely valued, with a majority of respondents saying these areas are important to quality of life and frequently used. Residents indicated a desire for continued investment in safety, maintenance and amenities, along with more affordable or free activities and additional communitywide events.

Health and safety services received high marks. Access to health care was identified as a top priority, and police, fire and emergency medical services received strong ratings for professionalism, quality and response time. Nearly 80% of respondents said emergency response should remain a focus for future investment.

Based on the survey findings, Measurement Resources Company, which conducted the survey, outlined five recommendations. These include encouraging age-friendly housing options, expanding affordable and inclusive community activities, improving sidewalk and trail connectivity, maintaining access to health and prevention services through the Beavercreek Senior Center, and continuing to invest in police, fire and EMS services to meet future community needs.

The next stage of the process will involve the City of Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township developing an action and evaluation plan based on the survey results. The plan will be submitted to AARP for review and approval. Once approved, the action plan will secure Beavercreek’s membership in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States & Communities for an additional three years and position the community to pursue future state and federal grant opportunities.

City and township officials say the survey provides a valuable foundation for ongoing planning efforts as Beavercreek works to remain a welcoming, accessible and livable community for residents of all ages.
