The Beavercreek Police Department has recently started its Blue Envelope Program, a voluntary initiative designed to assist individuals with special needs — such as autism, dementia, or anxiety — during interactions with law enforcement.
The program provides residents with a blue envelope and a car sticker to alert officers that a driver or passenger may require additional support or understanding. The initiative aims to enhance communication and promote inclusivity, particularly for those who may experience challenges during law enforcement encounters.
Beavercreek residents can pick up a blue envelope at the Beavercreek Police Department, 1388 Research Park Drive. Each envelope contains a letter from Police Chief Chad Lindsey explaining the program, along with a Communication Disability Verification Form. The form, issued by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, identifies individuals with communication disabilities to help ensure they receive appropriate support.
The envelope is intended to hold essential documents, such as vehicle registration, proof of insurance and emergency contact information. During a traffic stop or other encounter with police, residents can present the blue envelope to officers to help facilitate communication. The accompanying car sticker can also be placed on the vehicle if the driver chooses. For additional questions, please email police@beavercreekohio.gov or call the department's non-emergency number at (937) 426-1225.
