2024 Projects
1. N. Fairfield Road Reconstruction (Pentagon to I-675)
The city repaired concrete pavement along N. Fairfield Road between Pentagon Boulevard and I-675. An asphalt overlay was installed on this section of the road, along with the reconstruction of an existing concrete island and repairs to catch basins. The project was funded with approximately $939,888 in federal grants and $826,592 in local funds, totaling $1.77 million.
2. N. Fairfield Road Widening (Lawson to Fairwood)
This project widened North Fairfield Road between Lawson Drive and Fairwood Drive to include a new center turn lane. Additionally, the sidewalk along the east side of N. Fairfield Road was widened. Funding included approximately $999,600 in federal grants and $826,592 in local road levy funds, for a total project cost of $2.2 million.
3. Col. Glenn Highway Enhancements
Enhancements along Col. Glenn Highway between Zink Road and Grange Hall Road included the installation of new lighting and decorative pavers. The city received approximately $336,050 in federal grants and contributed $180,950 in local road levy funds, resulting in a total project cost of $517,000.
4. Col. Glenn Highway Resurfacing
This project involved the milling, pavement repairs, and resurfacing of Col. Glenn Highway between Grange Hall Road and the city’s western corporation limit. The city utilized approximately $591,840 in federal grants and $147,960 in local road levy funds, totaling $739,800.
5. Willowcrest Stormwater Improvements
To address persistent flooding in the Willowcrest Road area, this project included the construction of two stormwater retention facilities and related drainage improvements. The city used approximately $1.8 million in federal funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
6. Vineland Trail Ditch Restoration
The city restored a public drainage ditch located south of Vineland Trail between I-675 and Willow Run Drive. The restoration included the installation of riffles, rock channel protection, tree plantings, live staking, storm sewer repairs, and other erosion mitigation measures. Approximately $1.2 million in ARPA funds were utilized for this project.
7. Kemp Road Sidewalk Improvements
Improvements along Kemp Road between Grange Hall Road and the Grange Hall Road/Oxmoor Drive intersections included the installation of curbing, storm sewer infrastructure, and pedestrian facilities. The project received approximately $344,850 in federal grants and utilized $1 million in local road levy funds, for a total cost of $1.3 million.
8. Grange Hall Road Widening
This project widened Grange Hall Road between Kemp Road and Summerfield Drive to add a center turn lane, curbing, storm sewer improvements, and pedestrian facilities. The city secured approximately $2.4 million in federal grants, $868,000 in state funds, and used $1.2 million in local road levy funds, totaling $4.3 million.
